WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS

By admin
on September 11, 2013

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

It’s time for WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS!

What is WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS? It’s not really about one thing in particular, but rather “the works” of a stamped card or project.  Today we’re focusing on TREAT HOLDERS (specifically, sour cream containers), but a variety of topics will be covered in this segment… from color combos to shaped cards to inspiration pieces to mixing and matching stamps and/or papers…and everything in between.

In case you missed it…I LOVE HALLOWEEN. For those of you that didn’t miss it, I’m guessing you are shouting at your computer “We know!!” Bear with me for the next few weeks as I shout it from the mountaintops, as I promise that I won’t just be saying it, I’ll be showing it!  Showing it through cards and other projects featuring Reverse Confetti’s Halloween stamps…and even make those stamps that aren’t labeled “Halloween” work in your Halloween (and fall!) projects.

. . . . .

One of the fun things about Halloween (and so many of the upcoming holidays) is making treat holders.  On Valentine’s Day this year, one of my co-workers passed out sour cream containers filled with yummies to all the preschool teachers.  It was so cute and it made me think how long it had been since I had made one of them.  I’ve been sitting on the thought of making some (yes, since February!) and I think that they will be perfect to pass out at Halloween to the teachers (the kids are getting the pixy stix/pencil holder).  So, here’s what I came up with…

Untitled-1

Not sure how to make these?  Here’s a tutorial to help you.

SUPPLY LIST:

  • SPOOKY CUTIES and SPOOKY SENTIMENTS stamp sets
  • Black Ink (Brilliance Graphite Black used)
  • 5×6 piece of lightweight cardstock (heavier cardstock will crease, so I like a lighter weight)
  • Small/scrap sheets of olive, black and white cardstock to stamp and punch
  • Baker’s Twine (black/white shown)
  • Orange 5/8″ ribbon
  • 1 1/4″ & 1 3/8″ circle punches
  • Hole Punch
  • Paper Crimper
  • Scissors
  • Adhesive (I use red line/double stick tape)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Stamp the small bat strip across the top and bottom of the 5″x6″ piece of cardstock, leaving about 1/4″-1/2″ on top and bottom.  Then, stamp the large polka dot bats in a random pattern.  TIP: start in the middle and work your way outward.  Also, you will notice on my finished container that the bats have a “shadow” to them.  I added that with a C4 Copic marker when I was playing around with different options.

2. Flip your piece of cardstock over and run a strip of red line tape down one side from top to bottom.  Adhere to opposite side, making a cylinder.

3. Pinch the bottom of cylinder together, forming a crease on the very bottom on the side.  Add red line adhesive to the inside and adhere.

 4. Fill with goodies

5. Repeat step #3 for the top, but in the OPPOSITE direction.

6. Crimp ends.  This is optional, but gives it the look of “real” sour cream containers.

7. Add a punched circle folded over the top and punch holes for ribbon.

8. Thread ribbon through holes and tie ribbon in knot, cutting the ends into flag-ends.

9. Stamp the sentiment and punch out with a 1 1/4″ circle punch and mat with a black 1 3/8″ punched circle.  Punch a hole at the top, thread baker’s twine through and add to ribbon on sour cream container, tying a double bow.

10. Pass out to all your favorite people!

(I mentioned I love Halloween, right?)

Being that I do love Halloween, at least creating all things spooky and cute for it, I couldn’t resist making another treat holder using the new SPOOKY CUTIES and SPOOKY SENTIMENTS set.  While I am not into mass producing projects, I think that there may be several of these going to Nic and Ellie’s classmates, possibly with a pencil instead of Pixy Stix…

This treat holder is also the make ‘n take for next Saturday’s event at The Little Blue House.

If you’re local, stop by, say “hi” and make one of these with me!

I LOVE HALLOWEEN!

There, I said it. Again.

If you have followed me for any amount of time, you know this.  I love decorating, making gifties and having Halloween shin-digs for the kiddos.  If I can create it for Halloween, I will!  So, when it came time to create Halloween sets for Reverse Confetti I was beyond excited…and a little overwhelmed because it was HARD to narrow down what actually went into these sets. When all was said and done, I was over the moon with what we came up with…two coordinating Halloween sets!

Today, we are introducing these sets: SPOOKY CUTIES and SPOOKY SENTIMENTS.  These two sets are designed for (at the risk of sounding like a car commercial) optimal versatility.  What exactly do I mean by that?

1.  These sets are designed so that they will easily work together or on their own

2. You will notice that the sentiments in the Spooky Sentiments set basically come in 2 general sizes: long and shorter/taller. These are all made to WORK TOGETHER like subway art, but instead of having just one stamp with all the words, you are able to create subway art or use the stamps individually, or pair them any way you want.  The short diagonal lines can separate the sentiments or be used as an embellishment/element on your projects.

3. The images in Spooky Cuties are sized to work with the Spooky Sentiments when building subway art or just using them together on a cute tag, card or scrapbook page.

So, without any further adieu, let me introduce you to SPOOKY CUTIES and SPOOKY SENTIMENTS

Both of my projects today use a combination of the two sets, as I love how they work together.

For my first project, I used two trends: chalkboard and subway art to create this shadowbox that I can’t wait to display in my entry…

ShadowBox_box

It was just impossible to get a picture without some glare.  Here are a few detail shots of this project outside of the shadowbox…

My second project is a little treat bag/box that I created from kraft cardstock that I repeatedly stamped with the polka dot bat.  I then added a embossed flap with a layered focal panel containing a doily, circle punches, a glittery bat and the sentiment “Batty For You”…

TreatBag

Detail shot…

Love the sparkly black bat?  Here’s a little trick you can use when glittery die cuts, etc.  To make the bat even more sparkly, I applied black Stickles all over the bat and then sprinkled on the glitter.  It’s just a little added sparkle that goes a long way.  I use this same “trick” when creating “snow” on my holiday/winter projects (with white/clear Stickles and glitters, of course).
