Hey, hey ‘Fetti Fans!
What day is it? WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS day! *wink*
What is WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS?
It’s not really about one thing in particular, but rather “the works” of a stamped card or project. A variety of topics will be covered in this segment… from color combos to shaped cards to inspiration pieces to mixing and matching stamps and/or papers…and everything in between. Today, my focus is on… WATERCOLORS. Watercoloring on cards and other paper crafting project has seen a surge in popularity and I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon!
Yesterday, I showed you a card that I had used a die cut piece of paper that I had watercolored. The ombre coloring added visual interest and the watercolor paper added just a touch of texture.
Today, I created a background using watercolors…
Can I tell you something?…I love this card. It is so far from what I had originally envisioned and it may be one of my favorites that I have ever made. Gotta love it when that happens!
To create this watercolor background, I colored from bottom to top. I had to add a little water (and a touch or two of paint) along the way to get the fade that I desired. It’s not quite what I would consider ombre, but I do like the faded effect that it has. After it was dry, I saturated my paintbrush in the color that I used to watercolor and I flicked it a couple of times over the paper to get the splatters that you see…and the ones that you don’t.
What do I mean by that?
Well, the negative heart was really an “opportunity to embellish.” There was a huge splatter there and I just didn’t like how it looked or how my layers looked on that side of the card. Seeing that I was out of watercolor paper, I had to make something work. So, I cut it out with the heart and it actually created a great piece of the focal element.
From there, I layered the other pieces of the focal element. The two flag ended pieces are cut from the flag ended banner in TAG ME. The sentiment is from the January release set, Heart to Heart, and the heart dies are from the coordinating HEART TO HEART Confetti Cuts die set.
As a finishing touch, and to tie in the gold paper, I added gold sequins.
