Hello and Happy Hump Day!

It’s time for another (our 3rd) WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS.

What is WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS? It’s not really about one thing in particular, but rather “the works” of a stamped card or project.  Today we’re focusing on THE CHALKBOARD TECHNIQUE, but a variety of topics will be covered in this segment… from color combos to shaped cards to inspiration pieces to mixing and matching stamps and/or papers…and everything in between.

Here’s a card that I did for the DARE TO GET DIRTY Chalkboard Challenge over on Splitcoast Stampers…

DTGD_Chalkboard

This card uses words from the I LIKE YOU set on top of a black cardstock panel made to look like a chalkboard.  Detail shot…

What you’ll need:

Stamp(s) (of course)

STEP ONE (no photo):

Stamp and heat emboss image or sentiment on black cardstock panel.

NOTE: You can just stamp something in white, but I like to have the embossed words, as shown, so they don’t wear away to much in steps two and three.

STEP TWO:

Apply white pigment ink to edges of cardstock panel.  You can do this by directly putting the edge of your panels in the ink or by rubbing ink with your finger.  Smudge the excess around the edges.

STEP THREE:

Get inky!  Get some ink on your finger and smudge it all around the cardstock panel, rubbing it “in” in some areas and leaving it a little thicker in others. Don’t forget to go over/around the embossing (just make sure it is dry and set). This will give the appearance of a chalkboard that has been erased several times.

STEP FOUR:

Draw decorative lines or dots on your panel.  Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect, but if you want straight lines, use another sheet of cardstock or a straight edge.  To create the rounded-in corners, I used a ticket corner punch on another sheet of cardstock and then traced around it.

TIP: Go back over your lines after tracing to darken and/or thicken them.

STEP FIVE (no photo):

Add embellishments and apply to project.
