Happy Hump Day!

What’s everyone been up to this week?  Are you getting inky with your Reverse Confetti stamps?  Be sure to link up on the weekly link list for a chance to win Reverse Confetti stamps!  Also, the August SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY is up.  Won’t you come play along with us?

<—FIND IT FAST links are always on the sidebar—

. . . . .

It’s time for another WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS.  I am loving this new segment here on the Reverse Confetti blog.

What is WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS? It’s not really about one thing in particular, but rather “the works” of a stamped card or project.  Today we’re focusing on a cool color combo AND a fun technique, but a variety of topics will be covered in this segment… from color combos to shaped cards to inspiration pieces to mixing and matching stamps and/or papers…and everything in between.

First, the color combo.  I am absolutely hooked on creating with black, green, gray and pink!

The second part of this WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS post is about creating your own pattern paper using a fun technique with paint .

DICcard_detail

Before I get started on the details, I want to share a little about this card’s recipient.  I’m sending this card to my kiddos’ former babysitter that is off to her freshman year at college.  She’s sweet as pie, super fun and has a little edge to her…which is exactly how I wanted the details this card to come across.  To achieve that “edginess” I created my own pattern paper with paint.

Do you have a lot of little paint bottles from various projects?  I have a ton of these bottles of acrylic and patio paint and every now and then, they come in handy for a paper project like this.

Paint

The black paint was poured on a plastic plate.

TIP: I use clear plastic cocktail plates from the $1 store (8 plates = $1).  Since the paint tends to bleed through on paper plates, and I really don’t want to use my dinner plate these are perfect.  Re-usable or tossable!

I added the green paint, along with a little water to thin it out, to one of two dixie cups I grabbed from my kids’ bathroom…

PaintCups

The rim of the blue paper cup was dipped in the black paint and then stamped repeatedly on the white cardstock.  When I was happy with the amount of black circles that I had “stamped,” I used my heat tool to dry the paint quickly.  Of course, you could wait for it to dry, but who’s got time for that? *wink*

After the black paint was dry, I dipped the paintbrush into the watered down green paint and flicked/splattered (using my thumb against the brush) the paint onto the cardstock.  I’m pretty sure that just as much splattered paint was on my panel as was on my workspace.  Take note of that, especially if you are working with a paint that cannot be washed out.

The end result…

DIC_paintpanel

From here, I cut two strips and added them to my card.

Easy peasy and a little fun ‘n funky!

TIME FOR A CARD TUESDAY

By admin
on August 06, 2013

Howdy, ‘Fetti Friends!

I hope everyone’s week has started off well.  Over here in the del Muro house, we are squeezing in as much (local) fun into these last few weeks of summer before school starts again.  Lots of fun in the sun, as well as some shady play dates are up ahead. At Reverse Confetti, we are gearing up for all things fall and then we’ll be jumping into all the winter holidays.  I hope you’re ready for all the great new things that are up ahead!

As you know, we don’t release every month, but rather every other month. August is one of the months that we do not have a release, but we are still having a lot of fun here and it’s sure to be a month chock full of great projects and  inspiration.  Of course, we’ll be hopping on the 8th, as always.  We hope you’ll join us…

Hop

. . . . .

Right now, it’s TIME FOR A CARD TUESDAY!

This is actually a card that I made for one of the Dare to Get Dirty challenges over on Splitcoast Stampers last week.  The challenge was “Simply Sparkly,” meaning a clean and simple (CAS) card with a bit of bling.  I love making CAS cards and there’s no secret that I have a thing for bling!

DTGD_SimplySparkly

I started by stamping the words AWESOME from the ARROWS ‘N ELEMENTS set and then added three strips of (double stick) red line tape in a diagonal to the bottom half of the die cut (Silhouette) tag.  Next, I added the glitter one color at a time.

DTGD_SimplySparkly_detail2

I couldn’t stop at just glitter for a challenge that called for bling!  I also spritzed the base of my card with a little Heidi Swapp Color Shine it Teal.  It’s very subtle, but breaks up all the white just enough.  Plus it sparkles a little bit…bonus!

DTGD_SimplySparkly_detail1

As you can see, I also added sequins and topped them with rhinestones for just that added little bit of bling (and color).

Because this card has so much sparkly stuff going on, I wanted to make sure the rest of the card was CAS just as the challenge called for.  I kept the layers to a minimum and the paper color palette is completely neutral.  When I added the kraft panel on the right, I needed a way to bring it together on the rest of the card.  To do this, I layered it under the white star and added kraft colored linen thread.

AUGUST SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY

By admin
on August 01, 2013

Happy AUGUST!  Wow…time flies!

I love August.  The hot weather, time by the pool or at the lake (like today), friends and family, back to school and birthday cake!  Yep, I’m a Leo (does that explain a lot?).  I’m one of those people that loves their birthday.  Do you?   I know some people want their birthday to be kept a secret, but not me.  I guess after being put on top of a table and getting sung to by a whole restaurant I just embraced the idea of my birthday being an extra fun and special day.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ll probably still be doing loads of laundry and playing chauffeur all day, but it will still be fun and special.

I love the idea of doing Random Acts of Kindness on your birthday…the same amount to match your age.  Have you ever done this?  What did you do?  I’d love some ideas!

. . . . .

Well, I’m sure you didn’t come here to discuss my birthday…that’s just an added bonus, right?

Today is August 1st, which means we get to introduce the new SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY (aka SFYTT).  I know that I always say this, but this sketch really is full of possibilities!  I can’t wait to see how you will make it your own!

The August SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY…

RC_SFYTT3

While it might not seem like it, especially because of how I started this post, but it really is a coincidence that I made a birthday card as my sample.  I just really wanted to use the CELEBRATE CAKE set (from our Key Words Collection)…

SFYTT1

Confetti Crew Member, Heather Pulvirenti posted THIS card using the overlapping circles from WHOLE LOTTA DOTS embossed in neon green embossing powder and I immediately was in love and wanted neon green embossing powder so that I could do the same thing!  I even ventured to Hobby Lobby with both kids in tow to get it.  We’re just going to consider that “commitment to my craft” and not “crazy craft lady OCD.”  We’re all in agreement, right?  Ok good, glad we’re on the same page.

Pic of the various details on this card, including the said neon green embossing on the black panel and arrows from the ARROWS ‘N ELEMENTS set…

SFYTT1_detail

I’ve also been playing around with some of my Heidi Swapp Color Shine sprays (purchased at Michaels).  Instead of spritzing it onto my card base, I put a small paintbrush into the bottle and then flicked the Tinsel color onto by card base to give it just a hint of splatter…

SFYTT1_Splatter

The SKETCH FOR YOU TO TRY details you need to know…

  • There will be a new sketch posted on the Reverse Confetti blog on the 1st of each month.
  • The sketch link list will be open from the 1st until noon CST on the 14th. The sketch will be posted in the sidebar and you will be able to click on it to get to that month’s SFYTT post with the link list during this time.
  • We originally stated that you must play with Reverse Confetti stamps to win; however, we are allowing “anything goes” until the end of the year. Note, that we will be adding this requirement in January.
  • You may enter as many times as you wish.
  • There will be a winner each month and that person will receive ALL OF THE STAMP SETS for the next release and be invited to share their creations during our sneak peeks and hop!  The winner of SFYTT will be posted on the Reverse Confetti blog on the 15th of each month.

Want more SFYTT samples?  The Confetti Crew will be posting their sketch creations over the next couple of weeks for a continuous does of inspiration.  Today, check out what Heather did with the sketch!

WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS: CHALKBOARD TUTORIAL

By admin
on July 31, 2013

Hello and Happy Hump Day!

It’s time for another (our 3rd) WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS.

What is WEDNESDAY IN THE WORKS? It’s not really about one thing in particular, but rather “the works” of a stamped card or project.  Today we’re focusing on THE CHALKBOARD TECHNIQUE, but a variety of topics will be covered in this segment… from color combos to shaped cards to inspiration pieces to mixing and matching stamps and/or papers…and everything in between.

Here’s a card that I did for the DARE TO GET DIRTY Chalkboard Challenge over on Splitcoast Stampers…

DTGD_Chalkboard

This card uses words from the I LIKE YOU set on top of a black cardstock panel made to look like a chalkboard.  Detail shot…

DTGD_Chalkboard_detail

. . . . .

What you’ll need:

Black (or dark) cardstock panel

VersaMark Ink Pad (or other ink that embossing powder will stick to)

White Pigment Ink

White Detail Embossing Powder

Embossing Buddy

White Gel Pen

Stamp(s) (of course)

ChalkboardSupplies

STEP ONE (no photo):

Stamp and heat emboss image or sentiment on black cardstock panel.

NOTE: You can just stamp something in white, but I like to have the embossed words, as shown, so they don’t wear away to much in steps two and three.

STEP TWO:

Apply white pigment ink to edges of cardstock panel.  You can do this by directly putting the edge of your panels in the ink or by rubbing ink with your finger.  Smudge the excess around the edges.

Chalkboard_InkEdges

STEP THREE:

Get inky!  Get some ink on your finger and smudge it all around the cardstock panel, rubbing it “in” in some areas and leaving it a little thicker in others. Don’t forget to go over/around the embossing (just make sure it is dry and set). This will give the appearance of a chalkboard that has been erased several times.

Chalkboard_InkFinger

STEP FOUR:

Draw decorative lines or dots on your panel.  Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect, but if you want straight lines, use another sheet of cardstock or a straight edge.  To create the rounded-in corners, I used a ticket corner punch on another sheet of cardstock and then traced around it.

TIP: Go back over your lines after tracing to darken and/or thicken them.

Chalkboard_addpen

STEP FIVE (no photo):

Add embellishments and apply to project.

TIME FOR A CARD TUESDAY

By admin
on July 30, 2013

Tuesday Greetings Reverse Confetti family, friends and fans!

It’s TIME FOR A CARD TUESDAY!

My card today is straight from the DARE TO GET DIRTY challenges over on Splitcoast Stampers. (Read more about all the fun and inspiring challenges HERE).

This one is for the “Ray of Light” challenge and these warm and sunny does of summer are the perfect mojo kick-starters.  For the sun’s rays, I cut out a full sun from the Silhouette and then cut it in half and layered it for added dimension…

DTGD_Rays

For the sentiment, I mixed and matched sentiments from both the Arrows ‘n Elements and I Like You sets, making the perfect one for this card that I plan on slipping to the Chief Party Pooper (read more about that HERE).

The aqua panel is stamped with VersaMark ink with the overlapping circles from Whole Lotta Dots

‘FETTI FINDS & NEW LINK LIST

By admin
on July 29, 2013

Hello and Happy Monday ‘Fetti Fans!

Did you enjoy your weekend?  Did you get any crafting done or take a dip in the pool, lake or ocean?

I am currently working on holiday stamp designs and was knee deep in all things Christmas over the weekend.  It’s a little hard to get in the spirit of decking the halls when the mercury is pushing 100 degrees.  My mojo was refreshed with a great time with friends and some time spent poolside on Sunday evening.  I’m ready for a great week ahead and hope you are, too!
