WEEK IN REVERSE

By admin

Hello and Happy Friday, ‘Fetti Fans!

Wow…Friday already!  This week has flown by! Anyone else ready for the weekend? We are having my lil’ man’s birthday party this weekend.  It’s a Batman theme and most of the RSVPs have been girls.  Looks like I’m going to be figuring out a way to incorporate some pink here and there for this party…good thing that comes naturally to me!

. . . . .

It’s Friday and it’s time for WEEK IN REVERSE…where we take a look back at what the Confetti Crew has been up to this week.

Val’s own (not so) lil’ (anymore) man had a birthday this week and this is the fabulous card that she created for him.

SO STRIPEY, WHOLE LOTTA DOTS, ARROWS ‘N ELEMENTS, TAG ME Confetti Cuts

CHA was wonderful and I am so glad that I got to share a lot of the time there with two of the Confetti Crew team members: Stacey Schafer and Amy Kolling.  Stacey made these super darling burlap sacks filled with a personalized stamp for each of us.  How sweet is that!?

SWEET THING, LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts, ARROW Confetti Cuts, TAG ME Confetti Cuts, DOUBLE EDGE SCALLOP BORDER Confetti Cuts

Lisa really made me say, “Awww” out loud when I saw this over the top cute (and foxy!) card.

FREIDA FOX, LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts

Here’s another one of Lisa’s cards with a much more masculine feel to it.

LOTS TO SAY, CELEBRATE CAKE, LIGHTHEARTED LETTERS, INNER ROCK STAR

I’m loving all the great details and ink colors on Heather’s card!

I think that this is just the color palette to break those winter blues!  I decided to use them against a very white background/base and make them “pop”…

CONFETTI CAMERA

Hello (again!).

If you are looking for the SFYTT winner announcement, please keep scrolling when you are finished reading this post.

. . . . .

Are you thinking, “Isn’t Confetti Camera usually on Thursdays?”  You are right, but we are introducing our January color challenge tomorrow so we are fast tracking Confetti Camera this week.

. . . . .

We’re glad that you are joining us for this week’s Confetti Camera!

In this weekly segment, one of the Confetti Crew designers will have the camera on both themselves, as a designer, and on their Reverse Confetti creations.  For this round, you’ll get a dose of Reverse Confetti inspiration from a fun tip or technique from each of our designers.  A couple of things to note:

1) This segment will not “air” if there is a different post scheduled for that day, such on Sketch for You to Try on the 1st of each month or on a hop or sneak peek day.

2) Each designer will answer the same set of questions/show a tip until we have featured every Confetti Crew Design Team Member (then it’s a new round with new questions/theme).  To see previous Confetti Camera post, simply click on “Confetti Camera” under the categories link on our sidebar.

. . . . .

Today the spotlight is on Confetti Crew member, AMY SHEFFER

One thing I love to do in my card-making is to create little clusters or collages using a mix of different stamps, die-cuts, and embellishments. It’s a design concept that works with all sorts of different styles, from vintage to CAS.

RCcrushin2detail_aks

To keep your cluster from looking like your scrap pile ended up on your card, here are a few tips that work for me:

 [annotated photo: CCannotated_RCcrushin2_aks.jpg]

 CCannotated_RCcrushin2_aks

1. Mix up your shapes.

Here, I’ve got a large circle foundation, a few rectangle elements (including the arrow), a heart accent, and last, more circles for embellishments. The fishtail banner and the arrow tip also add triangles.

 2. Add a vertical or horizontal element that extends beyond the cluster. My favorites are punched or die-cut border strips, ticket strips, a stamped border image, or just a card stock or patterned paper scrap.

 3. Offset your elements for a loose carefree, more random-looking arrangement.

 4. Mix up your materials. Think burlap, wood, felt, cork, vellum, acetate, etc.

 5. Embellish in 3’s. Most of the time, with a collage/cluster design, small embellishments are going to work better in odd numbers, threes, fives, etc. Even if you’re using a lot of a really small embellishment (gems, sequins, rhinestones, etc.) arrange them in smaller trios.

 6. Embrace the negative space. Empty corners are OK! But if you must (like me) do something, vellum, stitching, small gems, or misting are subtle ways to add a little something without competing with your focal point cluster.

Here are a few more clustering examples, using some of all of the above tips:

WEEK IN REVERSE

By admin
on January 10, 2014

Hello ‘Fetti Fans and TGIF!

What a week it has been…chock full of creativity and inspiration from our sneak peeks and new release hop!  It’s been amazing, to say the least!

. . . . .

As a reminder, our offices will be closed on Monday. Normal office hours and shipping will resume on Tuesday.

All orders placed by 5pm CST today will ship before I head out to sunny California for some fun, friends and CHA.

. . . . .

It’s Friday and it’s time for WEEK IN REVERSE.  This WIR post is going to be a re-cap of some of my favorite projects from our Confetti Crew, Challenge Crew and our January/February ‘Fetti Friend.  Let’s get this party started!

Does it get any cuter than this? Daniela created the most A-DOR-ABLE decor piece with FREIDA FOX from our  *new* Quirky Cuties line.  The overlapping embossed hearts in the background are from the new WHOLE LOTTA HEARTS set and she is holding the XOXO banner from the set, CRUSHIN’

Amy Sheffer also created an A-MA-ZING decor piece using the new set, PAPER CRANE

Do you love making little gifties?  We do, too!

Here, Sarah used the new WHOLE LOTTA HEARTS and SWEET THING  sets, along with the TAG ME and (new) LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts die set to create this super sweet gift set…

Susan created a fun treat using the SWEET TREAT TENT Confetti Cuts die paired with the new SWEET THING stamp set and (previously released) TAG ME Confetti Cuts banner…

Val’s gift card holder using a combination of the new LOVE NOTE, ARROW and (previously released) TAG ME Confetti Cuts with the sets CRUSHIN’, SWEET THING, WHOLE LOTTA HEARTS and SO STRIPEY is just too cute…

Amy has clever use of the SWEET TREAT TENT Confetti Cuts die as a lollipop holder. She added a TAG ME Confetti Cuts tag and banner, along with the new ARROW Confetti Cuts.   She also used the new stamp sets WHOLE LOTTA HEARTS and SWEET THING. Super fun and easy kiddo Valentines!

sweetthing

Need a quick and easy addition to a gift sack?  Leigh’s tags using TAG ME and the new SWEET THING stamp set are just perfect!

Need a love note…or two, or three?  Check out Lisa’s sweet notes to her guys using the LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts set paired with the new CRUSHIN’ stamp set…

Great minds think alike!

Here ‘Fetti Friend, Wida, created a spinner card using SWEET THING and WHOLE LOTTA HEARTS

RC Guest Sweet

Heather used the same concept here with PAPER CRANE

Looks like Heather also had a brain share with Laurie Willison. I love these sweet and simple designs they came up with!

Here’s Heather’s card using WHOLE LOTTA HEARTS and SWEET THING along with the TAG ME Confetti Cuts…

And, here’s Laurie’s darling card using SWEET THING and TAG ME Confetti Cuts, too (love this color palette)…

IMG_0958

Do you love the new ARROW Confetti Cuts die?  We do, too!  Check out how the Confetti Crew played with it and metallic papers.

Stacey’s layers are just awesome, but that ARROW Confetti Cuts die takes center stage!  This card also uses the stamp set CRUSHIN’, as well as the new LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts die…

Amber’s on trend gold arrow is the perfect embellishment to this card using the new CRUSHIN’ stamp set…

Savannah’s ARROW is red hot!  She also paired it with the new CRUSHIN’ stamp set…

Want to see how Savannah put this card together start to finish?  Check out her video…

Last, but most certainly not least, I leave you today with Laurie’s oh-so-colorful card, filled with lots of detail using the new WHOLE LOTTA HEARTS and CRUSHIN’ sets, as well as the ARROW Confetti Cuts…

I love heat embossing, it’s my all-time favorite technique! It’s fast, fun and adds a little something extra to cards/projects.  One of the questions I get asked most often by email is how I manage to avoid those pesky, stray embossing speckles.  You know the ones, the little stray pieces of embossing powder that seem to cling to your card, even when you’ve tapped, shaken and flicked your card base to remove the excess.  I don’t have a magic wand, but my go-to tool is a super tiny paintbrush (brush bristle tip measures about 1-1.5 mm)! It’s great for cleaning up the specks in detailed stamp images and sentiments.

010914d

Here are some other tips and tricks to help you get the best results:

• Start off by swiping your paper with an Embossing Buddy or drier sheet. (I usually tap the Embossing Buddy pouch on the card stock lightly, then spread the powder over the paper… Any excess powder can be wiped off after heat embossing.)

• Use a juicy Versamark pad for inking. (The drier the ink, the less your embossing powder will stick to it, so make sure you re-ink often.)

• Allow your heat tool to warm up briefly before you try to heat the embossing powder. (This will cut down on the amount of time you spend heating your card stock, and also help prevent embossing powder from being blown onto other areas of your paper.)

• Use your heat tool on the underside of the card stock from about a half inch away – the paper will begin to curl, but should flatten out more-or-less by the time the embossing powder melts. (This also helps the embossing powder melt evenly.)

I mentioned that I love creating for Valentine’s Day, right?  Well, today’s creation is just a little proof that I really am just getting started on all my Valentine goodies.

My card today features a combination of the new set, CRUSHIN’ along with the new LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts and ARROW Confetti Cuts.  Of course, a little bling goes a long way, too…

Detail of the focal panel…

I added a small rounded edge white cardstock panel that I embossed on top of the LOVE NOTE rectangle and then layered my hearts, arrow and sentiment circle.

Note: The two four.teen circle is easily punched out with a 1 1/4″ circle punch.

For a little added detail, I adhered a couple small heart strips from the LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts dies set to the inside of the card…

Love is in the air!

Valentine’s Day is such a fun holiday to create stuff for!  I personally love making my kiddos’ Valentines to pass out at school (with their help, of course).  It’s also a time to create something special for that special someone it your life.  I love dressing up my house, too, in hearts all pink and red. Yes, I said “dressing up” my house.   I won’t call it decorating because that’s what I did at Christmas at it takes up 9 bins in the attic.  I guess that’s what’s to be expected when I have been picking up at thing (or two) on clearance after Christmas for the past several years.  “Dressing up” seems to be a much more fitting term, as most of all of my Valentines stuff will fit into a bin or two and most of it is handmade.

What do you like to make for Valentine’s Day?  While I adore the cards and decor, it’s more than that for me and I took that into great consideration when designing the set we are revealing today.  CRUSHIN’ will be your go-to set for all those Valentine’s cards, tags, gifties, decor and scrapbook pages (this set is perfect for pocket scrapping…i.e-Project Life type).

Crushin300

I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I got this set in my hands…layered tags!

JdCrushinTrio

To create these I started with the solid scallop rectangle from the new LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts die set and layered it with the large tag from the TAG ME Confetti Cuts die set (previously released).  All of the stamps used are from the CRUSHIN’ set and I embellished with the hearts from the LOVE NOTE Confetti Cuts die set, the ARROW Confetti Cuts die and some gold sequins for some fun bling.

To be able to thread the ribbon through the scalloped rectangle, I used the large hole detail circle from the TAG ME Confetti Cuts die set and die cut a hole at the top, just under the debossed line.  I used adhesive at the top of the tag to adhere it to the scalloped rectangle, but left the bottom “loose.”
