Hello ‘FETTI FANS!  Welcome to Day 2 here on the REVERSE CONFETTI blog.  Yesterday, I let you into my world and let you know a little about me and about how Reverse Confetti got started.  Thank you for all the sweet comments, emails and Facebook messages I received.  You all truly warm my heart!

We’re just a few days away from the start of our Sneak Peeks (May 5, 6 & 7).  I am so excited for you to see these great sets in action!   But before we get to the product in the days to come, I want to introduce you to some special people…THE CONFETTI CREW.   Today, tomorrow and Saturday I will be presenting 3 Confetti Crew Members.  I’ve asked all of them to answer a few questions so that you could get to know them better and they could start inspiring you right here, right now.

. . . . .

First up is SUSAN LILES.  She is my real life bestie and I can’t imagine being on this journey without her.  She is a wonderful friend and super talented paper crafter.  I could think of no other person that I would ask to be my Design Team Coordinator and my right hand (wo)man.  Come to think of it, I am not even sure if I officially asked her since I think we both knew that it was pretty much a given from the beginning.

Hi!  I’m Susan Liles (aka susiestampalot).  I am married to Eric and we have 3 girls–Shelbie (21), Lindsie (12) and Audrie (9).  We live here in North Texas near Fort Worth and yes, I speak Texan (ask Jen).  I blindly met up with Jen at a scrapbook store after we found out we lived only 10 minutes apart through Splitcoaststampers.  We became best friends soon after that and I love her and her family to pieces!

How were you introduced to stamping?
I was introduced to stamping through an SU! party.  I thought it was ridiculous and stupid to stamp and color something over and over.  Then I was reintroduced a few years later by a very talented SU! demonstrator who showed me other ways to create with stamps and ink and the rest is history.  We are still friends and I “blame” all this on her!

How would you describe your design style?
I’d describe my usual design style as clean, but not simple.  I like bright colors and fussy cutting, but also love to dive into the shabby/vintage look as well.  I like to mix it up and love to embellish.

What’s your best advice for finding lost mojo?
Best advice for finding lost mojo?  Steal someone else’s.  Just kidding!  I like to poke around on Pinterest or bloggy friends for a little push in the right direction.

What are a few of your favorite color combos?
My favorite color combos would include any that I see in my head right before drifting off to sleep.  The last ones I dreamed up were:  turquoise/white/yellow/black, navy/hot pink/white/kraft, red/brown/turquoise/white, and then of course anything with kraft.

What’s your favorite thing about stamping/paper crafting?
My favorite thing about stamping/crafting is that it’s my ME time.  I get crabby if I don’t get to craft!  Not to mention the friends/best friends I’ve made throughout the craft industry and the fact that the projects are manageable and can usually be completed fairly quickly.  I don’t like unfinished projects!

Do you like using different techniques on your projects? If so, what is your favorite technique?
I’m usually not a “technique-y” person, so heat embossing or distressing is about as far as I go, although I’ve seen some new techniques I would like to try.

Where do you find inspiration?
Other than Pinterest or blogs, I like to find inspiration in color at Target.  I like to look at the kids clothes since they are usually vibrant and bright.  I have even jotted down sketches from magazine covers in the checkout line!

Do you listen to music while creating? If so, what are 3 songs on your current playlist?
Yes, and if Eric is asleep, I put my headphones on and rock out!  Let’s see…the last three songs I added to my phone are–Hotel California (Eagles), Mama’s Broken Heart (Miranda Lambert) and When I Was Your Man (Bruno Mars).  I also LOVE Pandora!  Favorite stations I’ve created are Taylor Swift, Lifehouse and Jack Johnson Radio.  I’m not talented enough to watch a movie and create.  I get too distracted both ways.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not creating?
When I’m not creating, I enjoy being involved in our girls’ soccer teams, cooking recipes I find on Pinterest, hanging out with my cool neighbors and staring at my cute husband.

. . . . .

The next CONFETTI CREW Design Team Member that I get to introduce to you is the SUPER talented LAURIE SCHMIDLIN.  Her stamping style is so unique!  She can go from vintage and shabby one day to clean and simple the next.  I am happy to say that I have had the pleasure of working with her on design teams and I was so pleased when I got to meet her in person at CHA last year.  She is just as sweet and fun as could be!

Hi all!  I’m Laurie, and I live in Montana (on a cattle ranch) with my husband and four children.  I am so honored to be on this design team, working with such fabulous designers!  I was so excited when I found out about Jen’s new venture!  Even though we’ve served on design teams together for many years, it wasn’t until Winter CHA of 2012 that I was finally able to meet her!  And let me tell you, she’s just as fabulous in person as I thought she would be!

How were you introduced to stamping?
I was introduced to stamping at a Stampin’ Up! party  way back in 1994!  I quickly signed up to be a demonstrator and taught others the joy of stamping for over 12 years!

How would you describe your design style?
This one is a tough one for me.  I can never quite put my finger on my exact design style!  I tend to go from the detailed and heavily layered cards to the more graphic and clean cards…and everything in between!

What’s your best advice for finding lost mojo?
There are a few things that I tend to do when I lose my mojo.  Usually the first place I start is to clean and organize my studio.  There is just something about a clean and cohesive work space that gets the ideas flowing again for me!  Sometimes, though, I find that taking a small break and doing other things helps me as well.  If all else fails, I challenge myself to create a card/project using something in my studio that I haven’t used for a while.

What are 2-3 of your favorite color combos?
It seems that my go-to colors right now are aqua and pink/red!  These are just happy colors!  I also really am enjoying gray with either yellow or coral.

What is your favorite thing about stamping/paper crafting?
My favorite thing about stamping is creating something that can be shared with others!  I also treasure the many friendships that I’ve made in the paper crafting community!  Stampers are just good people!

Do you like using different techniques on your projects? If so, what is your favorite technique?
I’ll admit it, I am not a “technique” person.  I don’t know why, though, because I really enjoy doing them when I can remember to!  LOL!  The one thing that I consistently do on my cards is emboss.  I adore the look of embossed sentiments especially…they are so crisp and clean!

Where do you find inspiration?
There are two places that I most often find my inspiration.  The first is my stamp room!  LOL!  It is filled with so many treasures and fun embellishments that often times just looking through them will bring on fresh ideas!  The other place I go to find inspiration is a web site called Print and Pattern.  I always find fun colors combos or patterns there that I can’t wait to try!

Do you listen to music while creating? If so, what are 3 songs on your current playlist?
Yes!  I am always listening to something!  I will either listen to an audiobook (I just finished Winter of the World by Ken Follet) or music!  The three most recently played songs are:  93 Million Miles (Jason Mraz), Hey Mama (Mat Kearney), & I Will Wait (Mumford & Sons).

What do you enjoy doing when you are not creating?
When I’m not stamping, one of my favorite things is to hang out with my family!  I really have the best kids…they are so fun to be with!  My hubby and I love to play games with them.  We are all very competitive, so it usually is quite interesting!  LOL!  I also love to read and bake (especially breads)!

. . . . .

My final CONFETTI CREW introduction for today is the lovely SAVANNAH O’GWYNN.  I have had neither the pleasure of working with Savannah on a design or meeting her, but I have certainly admired her talent from afar.  She thinks of some of the coolest things to do with stamps!  She also happens to have a chance to win a Reverse Confetti gift certificate on her blog!  Check out her post from yesterday, May 1, for more details.

My name is Savannah O’Gwynn {aka Sav}. I live in Southwest Florida with my husband, Travis, and 4 year old pup, Olsen. I started crafting at a young age, but I didn’t buy my first stamps until August 2009. In June 2009, I left my teaching profession to pursue my crafting passion and it was then that my life changed. I love everything about crafting–patterned papers are my favorite, as well as different types of ribbons and alpha letters! I enjoy working in my studio and being creative. I also love to sing–worshiping with my husband is a passion of mine.

How were you introduced to stamping?
I have always enjoyed looking at every aisle of the craft department in stores–I would drool over all the tools and supplies for crafting! I also have always subscribed to craft magazines (esp. Paper Crafts and Cards magazines). While flipping through my monthly issues, I would notice certain stamped images that I wanted to try out. About five years ago I bought my first stamp, and I’ve been hooked ever since:)

How would you describe your design style?
My crafting style is Fun/Graphic/Modern. I love patterned papers and whimsical images.

What’s your best advice for finding lost mojo?
I think the best advice for lost mojo is don’t push it– your creativity will come! I find that if I push myself and try too hard, I’m not pleased with my work or I can’t seem to get anything finished. If i just wait and take it easy, my mojo comes back:)

What are 2-3 of your favorite color combos?
I’m not one to work with color combos…. I love patterns, patterns, and patterns;) Patterned papers are my FAV!
What is your favorite thing about stamping/paper crafting?
I really enjoy seeing someone open up a card or gift that I handmade– their expression really makes the time that I spent on the project worthwhile! I also have made some really great friends in this crafting community!

Do you like using different techniques on your projects?
I stay true to my style and usually only use one technique: fussy cutting. I have started using my die cutting machine a bit more… but that’s about it:)

Where do you find inspiration?
Other than Pinterest, blogs, and magazines, I find inspiration in clothing, wall decorations, and even from flyers that I get in the mail. I just created a project that was inspired by the front cover of a Pier 1 flyer.

Do you listen to music while creating?
YES! I always have the radio on– but it’s not always music playing. Sometimes I listen to Focus on the Family, Bob Coy, or James MacDonald preaching.
What are 3 songs on your current playlist? The top 3 CDs that I listen to: Kari Jobe, Hillsong, Gateway Worship

What do you enjoy doing when you are not creating?
I actually am heavily involved with my church- my husband and I are Worship Leaders, and we have a ministry called Cans4Christ {we collect aluminum cans to help with our building fund}. I also enjoy going bike riding with my husband and dog, as well as hanging out with my friends {who are part of the Canning Crew for C4C!}.

. . . . .

There’s one more person that I would like to introduce you to.  She’s not exactly a CONFETTI CREW Design Team Member, but she is definitely a part of the Reverse Confetti family.  JEN GASSIRARO is one of our illustrators.  She’s the face behind the drawings.  I will send her concepts and sketches for her to go on and she works her magic and then we have cute stamps.  There may be a few more steps in there, but I won’t bore you with all those details.  Jen and I actually met when we were both in elementary or middle when our dads worked together (how cool is that?!). She is a wonderfully talented artist and fashion designer and I am so happy and proud that she is part of Reverse Confetti!

Hello! My name is Jen Gassiraro.

As long as I can remember I loved to push paint around. My parents were skeptical when I decided
to choose art as my major in college and on in to graduate school. But as I will teach my
adorable red head daughter that you must do what you love. It is that simple. My day job is
as a Sr. Textile/Graphic Designer in the fashion industry. When I have free time I create art.
Mostly mixed media pieces that mix the romantic surface of abstract expressionism with the extremely
flat world of graphic design giving the viewer a little piece of eye candy that can entertain.
I love to collaborate on creative projects with other individuals that share a similar passion to make
beautiful things, which leads me to my current project collaborating with Reverse Confetti.

. . . . .

That’s all for today!  I hope you will leave a comment welcoming these fantabulous ladies to the CONFETTI CREW.  I’ll have 3 more introductions for you tomorrow.  See ya then!

Countdown to Confetti: DAY ONE

Hello, and welcome to the REVERSE CONFETTI blog!  This day has been a long time coming and I am filled with both excitement and pride as I write this. I’d first like to share a little bit about me, Jen del Muro, and how Reverse Confetti came to be…

I can’t pinpoint an exact time that I became a paper crafter (and fanatic), but I am pretty sure that it was sometime during my toddler years.   As a child, I loved coloring, creating and embellishing.   The love of all things paper followed me through every stage of my life. I tried to get into scrapbooking, but after making one I realized that I was a little more “instant gratification” than that.  Of course, those were the days before being able to scrap within the confines of pocket pages.

And then there was the day that I was introduced to stamping.

It was Halloween of 2004 and one of the little boys trick-or-treating in our neighborhood was also giving out treats as he was collecting them in his plastic jack-o-lantern.  He handed me one of his very cute, stamped acetate bags filled with caramels and a darling coordinating bag topper — I was hooked right then and there.  I asked him who made it and he quietly said, “My mommy.”  He was out with Daddy that night, but I soon learned they lived just a few houses down and that his mommy actually sold all the stuff to make cute projects like the one in my hand.  A few days later I walked down to their house and was formally introduced to the world of stamping.  My husband, Tony, would later jokingly refer to our neighbor as “my dealer.”

Fast forward through years of catalog purchases and design work for many wonderful companies to one day last year when I was sitting in my studio and had the idea of starting a paper company.  Yes, you read that correctly…a PAPER company.  After a little bit of research and a whole lot of soul searching I realized that stamps were closer to my heart and a better choice for a business.  So, I did something that I swore I would never do… I started a stamp company!  I had, however, already thought of the name REVERSE CONFETTI and decided to keep it as I moved forward with business plans.

Those business plans included working with Tony to create a company that offers high quality, on trend photopolymer stamps and has top notch customer service.  Together, and sometimes with some outside help, we spent countless hours talking logistics, building the website and crunching numbers.  He’s the analytical one.  I’m the creative one.  As you can probably imagine, we did not see eye to eye on some things.  (Good thing we know how to meet in the middle).

One evening, he was sitting on the couch with his laptop and creating a multi-page Excel file that came complete with color coordinated pie charts and various other graphs.  As he walked me through each page… and it’s coordinating charts my eyes slowing glazed over as I nodded and “Mmm-Hmm’ed” to each point. Then he turns to me and asks, “What do you think my title should be?”  I chuckled, looked him straight in the eye and said, “Chief Party Pooper.” So far it has stuck!

Truth be told, he is my biggest cheerleader and has been since that day I discovered stamping.  He would tell me my projects were lovely when really it looked like the cat made it.  He helped me shop for storage as my ability to procure stamps, paper and embellishments was perfected.  He helped me shop for even more as I outgrew of the storage we had bought just a few months prior.  He even came home one day and told me about conversation he had with a friend.  Tony and his friend talked about various investments and Tony told him that, if given the chance, he would invest in my creativity (this was long after those projects that looked like the cat made them).  I am thankful for this.  So very thankful.

Don’t tell him yet, but I think we’re going to need more storage!

And now, here we are today…Day 1

Day 1 on the Reverse Confetti blog.

Day 1 on this crazy adventure that I now call life.

As exciting as Day 1 is for me, it’s what’s ahead that I am looking forward to most.
